In April 2027, I'll be taking on the London Marathon in memory of my Dad and raising money for The Myton Hospices.
When I was 18, I lost my Dad to cancer. In his final days, Myton provided my dad with compassionate care but also gave me and my family a familiar place where we could focus on spending time with him and creating some of our last memories together. It's now been seven years since he passed away, but the difference Myton made to our family is something I'll never forget, and is the reason they are my chosen charity for running the London Marathon.
The Myton Hospices rely heavily on donations to keep providing their services free of charge. With less than 20% of its funding coming from the NHS, Myton must raise more than £12 million this year to continue providing their vital services free of charge to patients and their loved ones.
Below are just a few ways donations can help:
• £34 could fund the daily upkeep cost of relatives accommodation
• £60 could fund two hours of specialist nursing care
• £90 could fund three children's counselling sessions
• £126 covers the cost of a patient's meal for one week
• £450 could fund an Inpatient bed for one day
I’ve never taken on a challenge like this before and I’m well aware of how tough it’s going to be, but it's a small challenge compared to what so many Myton patients and families face every day. If taking on 26.2 miles helps Myton continue supporting other families like mine, then every step will be worth it. Any donation, big or small, would mean a huge amount to me.
Thank you so much for your support.
