Mum verses award winning cyclists!


Many of you may know that my husband, Alex, and my daughter, Claudia, are both keen cyclists covering many different disciplines from cyclocross, cross country moutain biking, track racing, criterion racing and road racing. They have both won awards, locally, regionally and taken part in international races such as The Gralloch, Scotland and the Ultrafondo Tour des Stations, Switzerland. 


My childhood years were constantly spent on my bike. It was bike riding rather than cycling. I lived in a village which was five miles from the nearest town and riding your bike was how you got to see your friends and what you did when you were with your friends. 

I often tease my family that the bike skills acquired during my youth are just as proficient as all their discipline training and race winning. As a result, they have challenged me to ride with them in the local Myton Hospice Cycle Challenge, which they have ridden and supported in the past. 
Maybe foolishly, I have taken on the challenge and with the hot weather and a busy summer, training has not gone as planned. However, the effort and challenge will be worth it to raise money for this important local charity.

No one knows if they or their family member will ever need the hospice but we would always want to think it was there if that were the case - so any donation you can give is greatly appreicated by me and more importantly, by Myton Hospice.

I made it!

I am very happy to have completed the 50km Myton Hospice Cycle Challenge. Despite my late night at my friend’s birthday party the night before, Alex, Claudia and I arrived fresh faced and full of enthusiasm and met our dear friends, Mark and Graham! It took less than a kilometre for all of them, except Alex, to drop me as my relaxed approach did not match their speedy power! 
The ride went well with the legs, saddle, back, arms and general fitness holding up until the last 5km, but there was little choice but to push in through! 
It was all worth it when I saw Mark and Claudia and the Myton team clapping me over the line and adorning me with a medal! My first! Alex has hundreds of them but now I finally have one!
In the Hospice gardens, I was greeted by Graham and Yvonne with Graham offering me burgers and ice cream and Yvonne, knowing just what to do - sitting me down, giving me the rest of her Coca Cola and a relaxing shoulder massage and some calming words! 
Seeing all the happy cyclists and Myton Hospice team in the lovely gardens reminded me that it was a privilege to be able to ride today and I hope the charity continues to receive support from us all for us all.
