I'm taking on The Myton Hospices Cycle Challenge to help raise £70,000 amid a national hospice funding crisis! Please sponsor me today!

We know that’s a lot of money, but with your support, we’re confident we can do it!

The Myton Hospices provides compassionate care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families - both in their Inpatient Units and out in the community.

To continue offering this care free of charge, they need to raise £12.7 million of the £15.3 million it will cost this year.

They are not the NHS - they are a charity, and just 17% of their funding comes from the NHS.

More people than ever need a Hospice Bed, and tragically, too many people on the waiting list for a bed at Myton will die before they can access one.

As the only provider of Hospice Inpatient Beds in Coventry and Warwickshire, the demand is huge.

That’s why I’m taking on The Myton Hospices Cycle Challenge, to raise money so they can be there for everyone who needs them, now and in the future.

To reach this year’s Cycle Challenge target of £70,000, they rely entirely on sponsorship, and that’s where you come in. Just look at what your support could help fund:

• £94 could fund one adult counselling session
• £360 could fund our Myton at Home service for a patient for one day
• £450 could fund an Inpatient bed for one day
• £545 could fund the required drugs for one patient

Please donate today and help The Myton Hospices be there for those who need them most.

Disaster Strikes!

Monday 27th Jul
Earlier this week, while approaching the infamous Sun Rising hill on the levels outside Kineton, I suffered a mechanical breakdown, with my front derailleur snapping clean off the frame. This left me stranded - fortunately it was beautiful scenery and it was only half an hour before the emergency breakdown team in the form of my daughter came to the rescue and scooped me up
The bike was broken and is still in the repair shop - but fortunately again, I have a back up bike - my original Felt F95 road bike.
I went back a day or 2 later to tackle the infamous 17% climb for over a kilometre - It is a true beast but I managed to scale it - this is something I felt I needed to do before the ride this Sunday - as firstly I have never cycled 65 miles before and secondly I hadn't tackled that hill and needed to know I could do it.
Job Done!
Now taking a few rest days in advance of Sunday.
Wish me Luck!!

Training hard - But the seat needs to be soft!

Thursday 16th Jul
So far, the training is going well. I cycle twice a week about 20-25 miles each time.
A couple of weeks ago I did a local village community ride, 70km.
I had never ridden so far and I walked like John Wayne afterwards as my bum was so numb and sore.
I then found a replacement saddle which is more forgiving and has made rides a lot more comfortable!

A really fantastic cause, Jon. My dad was taken care of by our local hospice back in the 90s and I am still very grateful for that. Best of luck!
