Help us raise £327,000 to open more Hospice Beds

There aren’t enough hospice beds in Coventry and Warwickshire to meet demand. We have 36 beds but can currently only afford to keep 25 open.

   Secure, safe and easy donations

Around 4 people a week die or become too unwell to move while waiting for a bed at Myton.

No one should die waiting for a hospice bed or have to spend their final days in A&E or on a trolley in a hospital corridor when specialist hospice care could provide the support they need.

Dan's story

“Myton really felt like an extension of our home”

Dan was just 38 when he was cared for at Warwick Myton Hospice. Following a liver transplant, Dan and his family were told that cancer had spread throughout his body.

For Dan, his wife Kat and their children, having a hospice bed available meant specialist care when he needed it, while giving them the freedom to continue spending precious time together as a family.

One more Christmas together

A bed was available when Dan needed it.

When a bed became available at Warwick Myton Hospice on 25th December 2023, Dan's family asked whether he could be admitted the following day so they could spend one more Christmas together at home.

We woke up on Christmas morning in our own home with our daughter Eva opening presents under the tree. Our family came round and we enjoyed one last Christmas together.

Kat, Dan's wife

Dan was admitted to Warwick Myton Hospice on 26th December 2023.

“It was the little things.” We could bring in anything we wanted for his room, I could stay overnight with him, and we could even get takeaways.

Your support makes care possible

It costs over £15 million every year to provide Myton's services.

Our services are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Less than 20% of our funding comes from the NHS, which means we must raise more than £12 million each year.

Why a bed matters

A hospice bed is more than just a bed.

It's specialist care to manage pain and symptoms.
It's precious time together as a family.
It’s emotional support for patients and their loved ones.

And it needs to be available when someone needs it.

Patient story

“I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a bed here at Myton.”

Janine is a patient at The Myton Hospices. For her, having a hospice bed means specialist care in a warm, calm environment, with her family able to be by her side when she needs them most.

I know that in the future I obviously will need to be here for my end of life care, and it is so important to me and my family knowing that we are going to get the best care and support.

Demand for specialist palliative and end of life care is growing. Funding three additional inpatient beds would enable Myton to care for more local people when they need specialist hospice care.

£109,000 could fund one additional hospice bed for 12 months, based on our current bed numbers and the fact that we could open three more beds within our existing medical staffing and costs. On this basis, our £327,000 appeal target could fund three additional hospice beds for a year. .

Less than 20% of Myton's funding comes from the NHS. It costs over £15 million each year to provide our services free of charge, and we need to raise more than £12 million every year.
